Megan's Story

We are proud to announce we have gifted our second grant 💜🩷
Check out Megan’s story and how we have helped her. We hope you can join us in wishing her well for her ongoing treatment and operation!

I've had a lump in my thumb for around 10 years and got this checked 4 years ago and it was confirmed to be benign (osteochondroma) and therefore discharged. Fast forward to October 2023, I noticed the lump was growing faster and it was becoming painful and warm to touch. My GP referred me back to orthopedics in Southampton who did an MRI and x-ray. They then referred me to The Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in April this 2024, as the surgery would have ben complicated and they would have had more experience. When being referred they wanted me to have a biopsy first, this was a needle biopsy and the results came back inconclusive, my surgeon (Mr Perera) then performed an open biopsy. I then got my results on the 19th April that confirmed that unfortunately it was osteosarcoma - bone cancer. I am on MAP chemotherapy and have done 2 cycles (6 rounds) and this Wednesday in August I am having my thumb amputated and then will be having 4 more cycles (8 rounds of more chemotherapy. I heard about the Foundation as I am lucky to be friends with Kirsty's sister Megan. They have all be so supportive and helpful all they way through this journey already. How the KLSF helped

Prior to starting treatment, Megan had 10 inches cutt off her hair which she donated to charity. When Megan's treatment started she unfortunately started to lose her hair quite quickly.

The NHS offer you a grant of £200 towards a wig from a brand they work alongside, however, Megan was looking at these she decided she would prefer a real hair wig so that she could style it how she would like.

After a conversation with Kirsty's sister Megan, she was advised that was the aim of the KLSF - to help those in need of a little boost whilst going through treatment. Shortly after this, Megan applied to the Foundation for a grant for a wig she had seen. With Megan's permission the KLSF contacted the wig provider and Megan's grant was approved.

We are pleased to say that the wig arrived in a week and everyone would agree that Megan looks beautiful.

We wish Megan all the luck with her operation and treatment and will be here to support her and her family throughout.

Final word from Megan

I only received my human hair a few days ago, but as soon as I opened the box I saw how amazing it was. It genuinley looked like my old hair. When I wear it, it gives me the confidence chemo has taken from me.

Thank you so much for your kindness and giving me back some confidence!
